What a central AC installation involves
A central AC installation is a paired job. The outdoor unit and the indoor coil or air handler have to be sized and matched to each other, then tied into your existing duct system, drain line, and electrical circuit. We recover the old refrigerant properly, pull the old equipment, set the new pad or hangers, braze and pressure test the line set, evacuate it, and charge the system to the manufacturer's spec. Then we run it and take readings at the vents before we call it finished.
What we check and install
Before we quote, we measure the home rather than copy the old BTU rating off a rusted label. We check duct sizing and leakage, return air capacity, the condition of the drain line and pan, breaker and disconnect sizing, and how the outdoor location holds up against salt air and standing water. Installed work usually includes a new pad or stand, float switch, fresh line set or a flushed one, a filter setup that fits your IAQ needs, and a thermostat that matches the equipment.

Do I have to replace both the indoor and outdoor units?
Usually yes. Mismatched equipment often will not perform as rated and can shorten the life of the new part. If the indoor coil is recent and compatible, we will tell you and price it both ways.
How long does a central AC installation take?
Most straight swaps run a single day. If ductwork needs repair, the electrical needs updating, or we are relocating the outdoor unit away from salt spray and flooding, plan on two days.
Will new equipment fix hot rooms upstairs?
Sometimes, but often the duct system is the cause. We check return air and duct sizing during the estimate so you are not paying for new equipment that still cannot reach that room.
